Beggars and gamblers and thieves and robbers, pickpockets and deceivers who had nowhere else to go, found repair in the marshes called Hellos Biao. Insects and maladies and lack of food and frequent floods made the persecutors unwilling to pursue them there. Some of them were desperately poor, others less so but in need of a place where their life could start anew. Hellos Biao was such place. They became expert in finding drinkable water and were quickly able to locate underground sources in different spots. Those spots became home to the first wooden dwellings.
